Dishonest or dumb ? Both !
He didn’t do very well under attack back then, Fred. The media went after him because they perceived they had better socialist alternatives.
Since then, he has developed bluster and bullying to counter dissent. It has largely worked, in part because the media sees no better alternatives.
But the frank character defects we saw back then should have been a warning sign. We now know the outcome since this kind of person was elevated to the presidency.
