Greensboro Police Chases

An article was published this morning at the News and Record recalling a fatal police chase incident that occurred nearly six years ago. This is in the wake of two similar incidents recently.

The story recounts the story of the young Jewish woman, affiliated with a local progressive synagogue, who was killed during that accident. Although several had been killed, it was her death that received much of the attention. Her father is quoted extensively in the article.

The focus continues to be on the actions of the police. Interestingly, the main focus is not placed upon the transgressors who attempted to evade police. I don’t know whether that was somehow because they were likely African-American.

It is much better to blame the police within certain circles.

  1. As I recall, the fleeing driver in the above case had previously fled (weeks earlier, I believe, not that same night) from Greensboro PD officers, who terminated the chase due to high speed instead of catching him.
What did the driver learn from that experience? If you run fast enough, the cops will let you go.
So what did he do the next time the cops tried to stop him?
He fled even faster, resulting in the above fatal crash.
One could argue that had the driver been stopped in the first chase, the second (fatal) one would not have happened.

  2. If your society and local government policies tolerate a high level of dysfunctional lifestyles then the consequences are inevitable.
