Local Christian Schools Taking Government Money

An article at Triad City Beat details the dozens of private schools in the Piedmont Triad participating in our state school voucher program.

Among these, of course, are Christian schools. Here in Guilford County, these include High Point Christian; Wesleyan; Tri-City Christian; Vandalia Christian; Shining Light; Immaculate Heart of Mary; Our Lady of Grace; The Covenant School; Hayworth Christian; St. Pius X; New Garden Friends; Canterbury; High Point Friends; Buffalo Academy; Greater Vision; Brittain; Hope Academy; and Beacon Academy.

I was pleased to see that Caldwell Academy was not among those listed.

But it should be pointed out that some of the schools listed above were likely under considerable pressure because of competition from charter schools which tend to diminish the pool of those who might otherwise attend Christian schools. Some of them might have felt forced to participate in the state’s voucher program.

Each school that accepts the vouchers, of course, runs the risk of becoming dependent on the government monies. When the socialists take over the General Assembly once again, they will tell these schools what they can teach, and what they cannot teach. For those schools that are inclined to teach students a Christian worldview– and to help shape that worldview– they will find they are no longer able to do so.

Government money usually comes with strings attached. Farmers and those within the health care industry learned this many years ago.
