We had pointed out right after July 13 that two of the potential explanations include incompetence vs. willful negligence. Dan Bongino is a former Secret Service agent who elsewhere has raised questions as to whether there is a “mole” in the agency disclosing to bad actors critical information. Bongino seems to favor here the incompetence explanation, although I suspect the Secret Service leadership wants to leave Trump unprotected:

It is almost an overwhelming task to provide failsafe protection to the POTUS.
The two assassination attempts on Donald Trump were examples of incompetence. However it should be noted that Trump didn’t have the same level of security as Biden.
Clearly, Fred, they know how to provide good security because they have provided it for Biden. I think there is something profoundly dirty and evil afoot.
