I just took a look at a map of western North Carolina to remind me of the geography. On the social media feeds, we are hearing about some of the same towns affected by the storm repeatedly.
But there are numerous towns and villages further off the beaten path, especially south and west of Asheville, about which we have heard virtually nothing. There are also some towns and villages north of Asheville that have not been discussed.
We are hearing of horses and mules being used to access locations that are unsuitable for helicopter rescues. But the aviation community has otherwise come through in an astonishing manner, delivering relief and supplies and emergency help that government would not provide.
And of course, churches are coming through also.
We need to pray for all the forgotten towns and villages, and for trapped folks living in harsh terrain who are difficult to reach.
