I noticed a couple of interesting items.
First, Mexico has a new president– Claudia Scheinbaum. That might not sound like a Mexican name because she is Jewish, yet she was elected president there. She is also a Marxist, not unlike the man she replaced– Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
In any case, during her inauguration, a ceremony was performed during which pagan priestesses invoked and called upon pagan deities. In response to this, Catholic Archbishop Carlo Vigano called upon Catholics there to perform a “mass of reparation” to repudiate what had happened. He says that the deities they called upon are, in fact, demons.
Mexico is, of course, a major trading partner of the United States.
The second story deals with Mel Gibson. He is producing a TV series that deals with the Siege of Malta. This was a historical event during which hundreds of Christian knights defended against Muslim invaders.
Europe had been dealing with Muslim invaders and occupation for a long time. It was considered to be a Christian imperative to maintain and/or restore rule by Christians.
The ground rules under which Western society operates would suggest it is inappropriate to critique or oppose the display of paganism in Mexico, or the prospect of a Muslim takeover of Christian institutions and societies.
But in fact, we need to oppose and/or critique BOTH.
Funny I had always thought of Mexico as a devoutly Catholic country.
Gibson’s “Passion of Christ” stirred up some controversy and I am sure “The Siege
of Malta of Malta ” will also as well.. it is a story of faith, determination and divine protection that still resonates with the Maltese people – and Catholics around the world.
Unfortunately, Fred, when the population is inclined to choose Marxism, Fred, then it is no longer Christian. I don’t know when Mexico became no longer Catholic.
Gibson’s new work will spark some angst or anger because of its identification of Islam as an enemy to be protected against and to be vanquished. That is too much for modern sensibilities.
