I have heard and/or seen remarks expressing concern that all of the local judicial contests on the ballot in Guilford County are uncontested. There is a sole Democrat running and no Republican for each of these races.
What gives?
I think there are several factors:
- The legal profession is heavily skewed toward the democratic socialist party. Yes, there are Republican lawyers, but they are much lesser in number.
- Republican lawyers will tend toward being motivated to build a more lucrative career in the private sector.
- The voter registration figures in Guilford County make it difficult for a Republican to win. Why risk time and money for a seemingly futile effort?
I think the combination of these three factors explains why we have no choice on the ballot for local judicial races.
But remain mindful we DO have a choice in the races for the NC Supreme Court and the NC Court of Appeals. And I recommend voting for the Republican candidate in each of these races.
When I voted early (my district is 59) I noticed there were 12 judicial races unopposed on the back side of the ballot. This still seems very strange to me.
My guess is there are more judges in Guilford County than there are Dentist or Podiatrist. But lawyers, no—- they probably prevail!
Carl, of course, this is a very bad indicator for criminal justice and law enforcement that we have so many socialist judges. This is the price of living in a blue county.
