This is a fairly remarkable speech by Dr. W.A. Criswell, who was the pastor of First Baptist in Dallas, Texas over a period of more than four decades. He was speaking at the Pastor’s Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1985 shortly after biblical conservatives had attained control of the denomination from theological liberals who had engaged in “higher criticism”. Among other things, he offered some striking illustrations from the lives of Charles Spurgeon and Lottie Moon., and discussed the Christian founding of the University of Chicago. TC: Thanks for sharing the sermom of Dr. Criswell and some history of the Baptist Church. It was a lot to digest but familiar with battles being fought in todays church.
Thanks, Fred. I have posted a couple of Criswell’s speeches or sermons in the past, but this one is pretty timeless. He is a gigantic figure in recent Southern Baptist history– and you can see why.
