The NC State Board of Elections and the various county boards of elections have completed the process of re-evaluating the NC State Supreme Court election results. Jefferson Griffin still trails Allison Riggs by approximately 700 votes. The race for the seat is still contested, however.
Griffin filed a suit in state court challenging certain categories of ballots that were counted with incomplete information. The NC State Board of Elections has now “removed” the case to federal court. That seems inappropriate because the race is for a state Supreme Court seat; but the Board apparently has the prerogative to switch the proceeding to federal court.
This is significant because the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals is heavily controlled by the socialists. Griffin is justifiably challenging the removal. We shall see how that ultimately is resolved.
Recall that Justice Riggs had committed ethics violations in the course of her campaign. However, the state Judicial Standards Commission predictably has punted on this matter even though objectively verifiable complaints were filed.
It is good that Griffin continues to fight. The national GOP raised the white flag on various congressional races around the country that should have been fought. But Griffin will have a chance especially if the case is returned to the state Supreme Court.
I hope Griffin prevails but if not the GOP still will have a majority on the court.
Seems like the odds favor the socialist at this point, Fred. We shall see.
