Here is the report for the second of the two. The first occurred on Lawndale Drive on New Year’s Day.
At this rate, we would have 365 homicides this year.
The perspective of one exalted city councilwoman:
“As council members, we are really concerned. The Greensboro community has to think about what is going on. We are neighbors. We need to look at each other as neighbors. We don’t look alike, we don’t come from the same places, but we are neighbors, and it’s hard to be ugly to someone you love or someone you care about. So let’s look at each other as neighbors.”
And thus we hear the blind words of a failed political culture that refuses to see its own role in this situation.
This is not the time of year we typically see large numbers of homicides.
Let’s hope the violence turns downward. Greensboro is off to a flying start, Where we end 2025 is anybody’s guess.
Here are some interesting figures:
The city with the highest murder rate in the United States is Birmingham, AL. It has 72.8 murders per 100,000 people (Equivalent to per capita, but multiplied by 100,000).
The city in the United States with the most murders is Chicago, IL with 604 murders.
The city with the lowest murder rate in the United States is Cary, NC. It is 0.0 murders per 100,000 people.
The state with the highest murder rate in the United States is Louisiana with 16.0 murders per 100,000 people.
It obviously won’t continue at this pace, Fred. But it is always possible we might have a record year. That would be unsurprising.
