Helene Update: Western NC’s Struggles

I wish to make a number of points:

  1. The weather forecast for Asheville calls for overnight lows in the low-to-mid 40’s this upcoming week. It will be cooler for those who live at higher elevations. For those without power, it will be getting even tougher as the temperature drops.
  2. The official death toll from the hurricane is still below 300. However, there have been numerous social media reports from folks who claim to have heard from first responders here in North Carolina. They say that the number of unidentified dead bodies number in the hundreds or perhaps even in the thousands. One can’t help but wonder whether the socialists are holding back the number of fatalities to minimize the impact on the upcoming election.
  3. There have been quite a number of theories that there were certain agendas fulfilled in the manner this hurricane affected Appalachia– for instance, to take over land with lithium deposits or for other purposes; or to steer the hurricane in a certain direction. But there is one theory that seems credible. I have little doubt that the socialists in Washington and here in North Carolina are more than happy to have Republican voters unable to vote in western North Carolina and in Georgia. Indeed, I have little doubt that explains why the response from Governor Cooper has been so awful.
  4. In fact, there is evidence to suggest Governor Cooper has been extraordinarily negligent. For instance, even the New York Times is reporting there was a failure to evacuate these flood-prone areas properly. It is well known this type of disastrous flooding event can occur in mountainous areas. Indeed, at least a few of these events occurred in the Virginia mountains over the last 60 years. And government tracks which areas can flood.
  5. It is a state responsibility to issue calls for evacuation. And let’s remember that Cooper was not the least bit shy about issuing orders during Covid, even when they were monstrously inappropriate. But for some reason, there was no reason to evacuate all those Republican voters.
  6. Moreover, Pete Kaliner– a radio broadcaster in Charlotte– is reporting that Cooper delayed the approval for military aid. It had been suspected that the socialists were reluctant to commit to military assistance because they might be deployed to the Middle East.
  7. Interestingly, the former failed Jewish school here in Greensboro slated to house illegal immigrant minors is now being discussed to house those evacuated from the mountains instead.
  8. Our state government knew the hurricane was likely to strike western North Carolina well in advance. I had watched the National Hurricane Center’s geographic cone projection each day for several days prior to the storm. The western part of our state was always projected to be affected by that federal agency, again, well in advance.
  9. The Raleigh Republicans– excepting Mark Robinson– are dropping the ball by failing to highlight Cooper’s awful response. This is part of the rough-and-tumble of politics that is very important, because the assurance of accountability makes it less likely such negligence will occur. The Republicans owe it to citizens to act as opposition, loyal to the state’s citizens.
