There was a good article in a recent issue of Imprimis in which Kevin Roberts recounts the various leadership failures we have had in the United States since Reagan’s presidency.
He makes the case that Trump’s populism needs to be infused with constitutionally conservative approaches in order for the country to do better than we have been. While I might not agree with every single statement in the article, it is substantive overall and worth reading.
I read the article. As you suggest it is real. Acerbic…I don’t think so. He points to Javier Mile et al who have, “shall we say, colorful personalities. Their political swagger may threaten elite politicians almost as much as their policy agendas do, because it punctures the bubble of credentialed, institutional authority that insulates elite power from public scrutiny.”
That is a great quite from the article, Fred– pretty insightful. One could add Nigel Farage to the list.
